The hotel, one of a chain of 17, was carrying out energy efficiency measures and decided to look into water use as well.

Earth Genesis installed flush counters in 8 toilets – 4 back of house and 4 in the common area. The hotel team suggested that the bathrooms were being used 60-70 times a day but it’s only with monitoring that you can build a true picture to form the basis for action.

After 14 days the flush counters were removed and the data transferred to a ‘Monitoring Results Excel sheet’. Once we saw the final outcome we were surprised at the total water used by just 8 toilets, a staggering 4.57 million litres a year.
This is because of a high average flush frequency at 142 full flushes per day.
